As Barry and Ellen and all the Left Field crew celebrated the holidays with family and friends, KCAA 1050 AM aired this encore presentation of one of the best of "Barry Gordon From Left Field" episodes (which originally aired August 27 of this year):

In the first hour, Barry's guest is none other than John Dean, in his second "Left Field" interview, who talks about his powerful new book, "Conservatives Without Conscience."

In the second hour, Barry's guest is yet another current bestselling author, Ron Suskind, who talks about his newest book, "The One Percent Doctrine: Deep Inside America's Pursuit of Its Enemies Since 9/11."

And in the third hour, Barry hosts a "roundtable discussion" about the one-year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath with several notable residents of The Crescent City: Grammy-winner Terence Blanchard, who worked on Spike Lee's new documentary "When the Levees Broke"; legendary vocalist John Boutte, who will sing with Stevie Wonder and others at the "One Year Later" concert in the New Orleans Arena this week; and Stacey Tallitsch, author of "The New American Compact" and Democratic candidate for Congress.

Barry and Ellen host their last live show of the year with some truly remarkable guests.

In the first hour, Barry and Ellen's guest is former Secretary of Labor Robert Reich, who talks about the economic outlook in general and what the new Congress should do.

In the second hour, Barry and Ellen's guest is former vice president of marketing for Pfizer pharmaceutical corporation Dr. Peter Rost, who talks about his powerful new book, "The Whistleblower: Confessions of a Healthcare Hitman."

And in the third hour, Barry and Ellen will take a look at the year in review, with some special surprises -- including a poem from "George W. Bush" (Jim Meskimen).

December 10, 2006

With Ellen out sick, Barry confronts the biggest issues of the day, with still more great guests.

In the first hour, Barry's guest is former ambassador Peter Galbraith, who talks about his bestselling book "The End of Iraq: How American Incompetence Created a War Without End" and also the just-released report of the Iraq Study Group.

In the second hour, Barry's guest is Brian Patrick Mitchell, Washington Bureau Chief of "Investors Business Daily," who talks about his fascinating new book "Eight Ways to Run a Country."

And in the third hour, Barry's guest is Ken Waldman, "Alaska's Fiddling Poet," who has played The Kennedy Center and who shares some of his new work "As the World Burns: The Sonnets of George W. Bush and Other Poems of the 43rd Presidency" -- fictitious lyrics and actual quotes exposing, in a devastatingly understated way, the hypocrisy and insanity of the man in the White House, set to the tunes of first-rate folk music.

December 3, 2006

Barry and Ellen's guests are several extraordinary American women.

In the first hour, Barry and Ellen's guest is former congresswoman Elizabeth Holtzman, who served on the Nixon impeachment committee and who talks about the new book she has co-written with journalist Cynthia L. Cooper, "The Impeachment of George W. Bush: A Practical Guide for Concerned Citizens."

In the second hour, Barry and Ellen's guests are former ambassador Swanee Hunt, daughter of legendary oil magnate H. L. Hunt, who talks about her autobiography, "Half-Life of a Zealot," describing her personal struggles and humanitarian activism, in the United States and abroad, and then nationally syndicated columnist, author, blogger, and radio host Arianna Huffington, who discusses her latest book, "On Becoming Fearless ... In Life, Love, and Work," as well as her being the keynote speaker at the first annual Celebration of Oneness, in Barry's hometown of Pasadena, featuring among many other "cultural creatives" Left Field's own Ellen Snortland and Arianna Huffington's sister, actor and author Agapi Stassinopoulos, who is conducting a workshop on being fearless -- something that we Democrats, now back in power, had best consider.

And in the third hour, Barry and Ellen's guest is actress/writer/activist Lydia Cornell, perhaps best known for her role in "Too Close for Comfort," who talks about her progressive/spiritual writing and her ongoing, very public feud with Right-wing radio host Ann Coulter.
